A Personal Journey of Healing, Self-discovery and Recovery: From a painful Body to a Peaceful Mind

Introduction

I’m an Occupational Therapist, I have been for almost 30 years and it’s the best job I could have wished for. I get to work with so many wonderful children, families and adults and other dedicated professionals, and often see ‘miracles.’ Not because I have done anything special, but because human beings, regardless of age or diagnosis, have an intrinsic need to connect, achieve and be happy and well.

I am also a holistic/complementary therapist and have followed Eastern philosophy and medicine for almost as many years as I’ve been an OT. I’m a Reiki Master/Teacher, and a Crystal Therapist amongst other things, and I recognise and work with energy systems. Again, I have met and worked with many wonderful human beings through these modalities and have again witnessed many so called ‘miracles’. This is not because these alternative approaches are ‘magic’ or ‘woo-woo’ or 'New Age' in any way. In fact, they are ancient knowledge and techniques, handed down from our ancestors. They help us to learn more about ourselves, and tune into our own mind, body and consciousness. In this busy hectic world we live in, we have no time to stop and listen to our inner voice-our intuition.

Human beings are complex and unique, and I have a strong belief system that when something goes wrong in our bodies, then we cannot just treat the physical part of us. Whatever, it is, including accidents and broken bones, is a manifestation of whatever is happening in our minds, and all the different parts of us.

We consist of many layers: physical, mental, emotional, sensory, energy systems and spirit/consciousness. We are social animals, we have an intrinsic need to connect to others, to be creative, to belong and we thrive when we feel valued and have a real sense of purpose. Unless all those unique parts of us are cared for, nurtured, and helped to heal and grow, then we are missing a trick, and that’s the ‘MAGIC’.

Our body, mind and spirit, within our wonderful world of nature are powerful beyond belief. They have the greatest capacity to bring about a sense of peace, healing, value and great happiness, if only we let them do their job, without our negative unhelpful thoughts getting in the way. This is the very reason that Kelly and I developed Mind In2 Action. We both strongly believe in this philosophy and have personal stories where we have witnessed ‘miracles’ in our own lives.

This does not mean in any way shape or form that we ignore allopathic medicine and all the advice that fully trained medical professionals offer. I myself, am medically and scientifically trained and always take from evidence-based practice and follow ethical guidelines. There is definitely a place for current Western medical science. What we want to emphasise is the bridge between the two systems that needs to be crossed to offer a truly holistic approach; allopathic: complimentary; Western: Eastern; physical/mental: energetic/spiritual. It’s not one verses the other it’s a combination of the best of both.

This brings me to the heart of the reason for this this blog, and my own healing journey, I wanted to share with you in real time how I use different techniques on a daily basis to trigger the healing process, and nourish my mind body and soul, so that you might also benefit from the strategies and techniques provided. Take from them what resonates and works for you, and leave the rest. Never forget, you are unique, there is not another person on this planet like you, and you will need your own personal healing programme. As the weeks go on, please feel free to share your thoughts and experiences, either by contacting us or through our social media - Facebook Instagram  I wish you all the best of luck with your own journeys of self-discovery and recovery…….

“Recovery is possible through a blend of conventional and holistic approaches, but the most important thing is to listen to your inner voice and follow your intuition. Mind body, spirit need to work together to heal, and you must do what works for you.”
